Madra Rua – Organic Accommodation
Located along the Wild Atlantic Way and overlooking the Trawbreaga Bay and the Isle of Doagh, Madra Rua is the perfect place to set up your base camp to explore the delights of the Inishowen peninsula and its wild scenic coastline, part of the North West Region of Ireland, the most northerly area in the country.
Madra Rua is another way of saying Sionnach (fox in Irish language) what recalls the original name of our townland of Ráth Sionnaigh (Rashenny) which means The Fox Fort.

Local Activities
Walking, cycling, watersports, beaches, fishing, music in local pubs, local festivals... There's always something going on, particularly at weekends and during summer festivals.
Cyclists are welcome and we have a spacious shed to keep your bicycles.
We can arrange activities for you or just advise on how best to enjoy your time. We can also hire you a bicycle (we've got four of them in our shed).
A short drive will take you to Ballyliffin (3 Km), Clonmany (5 Km), Carndonagh (7 Km), Malin (11 Km) or Malin Head (24 Km). But if you prefer wandering arround Rashenny, you'll be able to get close to its wildlife: nesting buzzards, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, partridges and pheasants. You can also climb the mountain (Coolcross Hill, 291 m) to enjoy its breathtaking views of Malin Head and Glashedy Island to the North, Slieve Snacht to the South and Culdaff and Scotland to the North East.
Recommended for walkers and hikers wishing to bag a number of tops in the area, apart from the Coolcross Hill, they can head to the Binnion, in Ballyliffin, the Slieve Snaght and Slieve Main in the South, the Bulbin, Slievekeeragh, Raghtin More and Mamore Head in the South West or Malin Head and Croughalough (the most northerly hill of Ireland) in the North.
